GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Prepare the Seeds: Clean seeds thoroughly and soak them in fresh water for approximately 12–24 hours before beginning cold treatment.
2. Cold Stratify: Place seeds in lightly moist sterile medium and refrigerate at approximately 1–5°C (34–41°F) for around 8–12 weeks to help overcome dormancy.
3. Prepare the Soil: Fill containers with fertile, loose, well-draining seed-starting mix and lightly moisten the medium before sowing.
4. Sow the Seeds: Plant stratified seeds approximately 1–2 cm deep and gently cover them with the prepared growing medium.
5. Maintain Moisture: Keep the soil consistently moist during germination while avoiding saturated or waterlogged conditions.
6. Provide Sunlight: Once seedlings emerge, provide bright light and gradually introduce stronger direct sunlight as the young trees develop.
7. Transplant Carefully: Move established seedlings into individual containers and later transplant outdoors when weather and soil conditions are suitable.
8. Choose the Location: Select a full-sun location with fertile, well-draining soil and sufficient space for future canopy and root development.
9. Maintain Young Trees: Water regularly during establishment, mulch around the root zone without touching the trunk, and prune as needed to develop a strong structure.
10. Allow for Seedling Variation: Apples do not reproduce true to cultivar from seed, so Antonovka seedlings may differ from the parent in fruit color, size, flavor, quality, maturity, and tree characteristics; compatible cross-pollination may also be needed for reliable fruit production.
