Creeping Wintergreen Seeds – Gaultheria Procumbens Evergreen Teaberry Groundcover

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS

1. Cold Stratify the Seeds: Mix the tiny seeds with lightly moist sterile medium and refrigerate for approximately 6–12 weeks to help overcome natural dormancy.
2. Prepare the Growing Medium: Use a fine, acidic, humus-rich, well-draining seed-starting mixture and moisten it evenly before sowing.
3. Sow the Seeds: Surface sow the very small seeds and gently press them into the medium without deeply covering them.
4. Provide Suitable Light: Place containers in bright, indirect light and avoid intense heat or harsh direct sunlight during early germination.
5. Maintain Moisture: Keep the growing medium consistently moist using gentle misting or bottom watering while avoiding waterlogged conditions.
6. Allow Time to Germinate: Be patient because wintergreen seeds can germinate slowly and irregularly even after appropriate stratification.
7. Transplant Carefully: Move established seedlings into individual containers once they are large enough to handle without damaging their delicate roots.
8. Choose a Shaded Location: Transplant outdoors into partial shade or woodland-like conditions with acidic, organic-rich, well-draining soil.
9. Space the Plants: Maintain approximately 20–30 cm between plants and apply organic mulch to help retain moisture and maintain cool root conditions.
10. Encourage Groundcover Growth: Keep plants consistently moist during establishment and allow them time to spread naturally; avoid disturbing established underground stems unnecessarily.
