GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Scarify the Seeds: Gently rub or nick the hard outer seed coat with fine sandpaper or a file without damaging the inner seed.
2. Soak the Seeds: Place scarified seeds in warm water for approximately 24–48 hours before planting to help hydrate the seed coat.
3. Prepare the Soil: Fill containers with a fertile, loose, well-draining seed-starting mixture that retains moderate moisture without becoming waterlogged.
4. Sow the Seeds: Plant seeds approximately 1–2 cm deep and gently firm the growing medium over and around them.
5. Provide Warmth: Maintain temperatures around 24–30°C (75–86°F); moderate day-to-night temperature variation may help encourage germination.
6. Maintain Moisture: Keep the growing medium evenly moist but never saturated, as excessive moisture can damage seeds and developing roots.
7. Allow Time to Germinate: Be patient because Musa velutina seeds can germinate slowly and irregularly, with individual seedlings emerging weeks or months apart.
8. Provide Bright Light: After seedlings emerge, provide bright filtered light and gradually introduce stronger direct sunlight as plants become established.
9. Transplant and Maintain: Move established seedlings into larger containers or warm outdoor locations and provide fertile soil, regular watering, and feeding during active growth.
10. Protect Mature Plants: Protect plants from freezing temperatures and allow them to mature; the attractive pink fruits contain numerous hard seeds and are primarily grown for ornamental rather than conventional dessert-fruit use.
