GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Prepare the Seeds: Soak seeds in clean, lukewarm water for approximately 12–24 hours before sowing to help hydrate them.
2. Prepare the Growing Medium: Use a fine, sterile, well-draining seed-starting mix and moisten it evenly before planting.
3. Sow the Seeds: Scatter the tiny seeds across the surface and press them gently into the growing medium; cover only very lightly because fig seeds are small.
4. Provide Warmth: Maintain temperatures around 21–27°C (70–80°F) to encourage germination and healthy early seedling development.
5. Maintain Moisture: Keep the growing medium consistently moist using gentle misting while avoiding saturated or waterlogged conditions.
6. Provide Light: Place germinating containers in bright filtered light and provide stronger light after seedlings become established.
7. Transplant Carefully: Separate established seedlings and move them into individual containers once they are large enough to handle safely.
8. Acclimate the Plants: Gradually introduce young fig plants to outdoor sunlight and conditions before planting them permanently after frost danger has passed.
9. Maintain the Trees: Provide full sun, well-draining soil, regular watering during establishment, and appropriate pruning to maintain healthy structure and manageable size.
10. Allow for Seedling Variation: Ficus carica grown from seed is genetically variable, so seedlings may not reproduce the parent fruit's purple-brown skin, pink flesh, sweetness, fruit quality, or pollination characteristics.
