GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Prepare the Seeds: Clean seeds thoroughly and soak them in clean water for approximately 12–24 hours before beginning cold stratification.
2. Cold Stratify: Place seeds in a lightly moist medium and refrigerate for approximately 4–8 weeks to help overcome natural dormancy.
3. Prepare the Growing Medium: Use fertile, loose, well-draining seed-starting mix that retains moderate moisture without becoming waterlogged.
4. Sow the Seeds: Surface sow or cover seeds very lightly with fine growing medium because kiwi seeds are small and should not be planted deeply.
5. Maintain Moisture: Keep the growing medium consistently moist during germination using gentle watering or misting while avoiding saturated conditions.
6. Provide Warmth and Light: After stratification, maintain moderate warmth and provide bright filtered light to encourage germination and healthy seedling growth.
7. Transplant Carefully: Move established seedlings into individual containers and later transplant them outdoors once they are strong enough and weather conditions are suitable.
8. Provide Support: Install a sturdy trellis, arbor, pergola, or wire system and train developing vines onto the support as they grow.
9. Maintain the Vines: Water consistently, mulch around the root zone, and prune established vines during the appropriate season to control vigorous growth and maintain structure.
10. Allow Vines to Mature: Seed-grown plants are genetically variable and may not retain the named 'Issai' cultivar's self-fertile or fruit characteristics; flowering, pollination needs, fruit size, and flavor can differ among seedlings.
