GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Prepare the Soil: Use fertile, loose, well-draining seed-starting mix and lightly moisten it before sowing the tomatillo seeds.
2. Sow the Seeds: Plant seeds approximately 0.5–0.6 cm deep and lightly cover them with fine growing medium.
3. Provide Warmth: Maintain temperatures around 21–27°C (70–80°F) to encourage quick and consistent germination.
4. Maintain Moisture: Keep the growing medium evenly moist during germination without allowing it to become saturated or waterlogged.
5. Provide Bright Light: Once seedlings emerge, provide strong light to encourage compact, healthy growth and sturdy stems.
6. Transplant Seedlings: Move seedlings into larger individual containers after several true leaves develop and transplant outdoors after frost danger has passed.
7. Grow Multiple Plants: Plant at least two compatible tomatillo plants near one another to improve cross-pollination and encourage reliable fruit production.
8. Space the Plants: Maintain approximately 60–90 cm between plants and provide stakes or cages if vigorous branches require additional support.
9. Maintain the Crop: Water consistently, mulch to conserve soil moisture, and provide balanced fertility while avoiding excessive nitrogen that can favor foliage over fruit.
10. Harvest the Fruit: Harvest when fruits fill their papery husks and reach the desired purple coloration; mature color and flavor can vary depending on genetics and environmental conditions.
